Eel - This level is for children who are comfortable submerging their face in the water. Children should be able to paddle on front, back and side for 15 feet without support and 20 yards with support at the end of this level. Breathing patterns will be introduced. For children 3 - 5 years old.
Fish - At this point, students work to perfect their strokes. They are introduced to the butterfly stroke. By the end of this level, their breast stroke and side strokes will be at 50 yards (good form), and they will perform an endurance swim of 150 yards including front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke all with open turns. Children should also be able to perform 25 yards of basic butterfly.
Flyingfish - At this advanced level, students work on refining their strokes and increasing their endurance. By the end of this level, children should be able to perform front and back crawl, elementary backstroke and breaststroke for 100 yards each. Children should also be able to perform 25 yards of butterfly.
Guppy - The children continue to practice and build upon basic skills, now performing more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They are introduced to the breaststroke and elementary backstroke. By the end of this level, children should be able to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards without support. Breathing patterns with strokes and deep-water skills will be introduced.
Minnow - This is the initial intermediate level. The children further refine the lead-up strokes they have learned as their skills continue to progress. The focus of the class is on defining paddles into strokes and teaching base for breaststroke and elementary backstroke. By the end of this level, children can perform the front crawl and back crawl for 25 yards. Sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke are at a basic level for 25 yards.
Parent/Child Water Tots - This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents with their children 6 to 24 months old. The class is focused on water adjustment and basic swimming skills that will prepare them for the preschool levels. The program provides opportunities for parent/child teams to socialize with each other.
Perch - This level is for 24-36 months, which helps children start moving more independently through the water under their parents' guidance. Parents learn more about assisting their children by utilizing the preschool swimming lesson skills. Children are able to go to an instructor on their own; comfortable on their fronts and backs while floating, gliding, and kicking; can jump into the water with assistance; able to blow bubbles and do bobs by the end of this level.
Pike - This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is a beginning level for 3 to 5 year olds. Upon completion children can float for 10 seconds on their front and back, as well as paddle 10 yards with help and 5 feet with out help on their front, back and sides by the end of this level. Games and songs in addition to float belts may be used. For children 3 - 5 years old.
Polliwog - This is the beginning level for 6 year olds. The focus of the class is on water adjustment and the basic skills the strokes will be built upon. It helps children become acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and floating. Children will be able to float for 30 seconds on their front and back, perform a front paddle, back paddle and side paddle stroke 20 feet without support and 25 yards with support, upon completion of the class.
Private Swim Lessons - Trying to pass a hurdle in the swimming pool? Do you or your child need some extra help on a stroke? Try private lessons. Lessons are 30 minutes long. Punch cards can be purchased at Member Services (minimum of 4 lessons.) Lessons are offered Monday through Saturday and times are arranged with the instructor.
Ray - At this level, children review previous skills, improve stroke skills, build endurance by swimming on their front and back, and learn to tread water. Upon completion children should be able to paddle on front, back and side for 20 feet without support and 25 yards with support. Children will feel comfortable in deep water and will learn breathing with strokes and sitting dives. For children 3 - 5 years old.
Shark - The students at this level continue to improve and refine their strokes, with turns. Upon completion of this level, children should be able to perform front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and sidestroke for 100 yards each and butterfly for 25 yards.
Starfish - Children at this level review previously learned skills and refine their strokes. The focus of the class is on increasing endurance and independence. To complete the level children will be able to paddle on front, back and side for 40 feet without support. For children 3 - 5 years old.
