Fun for kids from Washington State and beyond
Grades listed below are the grades campers will be entering in Fall 2012.
Orkila Traditional Seekers
Grades 3 - 5
A great introduction to the overnight camp experience. Living in single-gender cabins, campers get a taste of all that camp has to offer, including the swimming pool, arts and crafts center, rope-climbing elements, the Marine Salmon Center and much more. Campers also enjoy an out-of-cabin overnight adventure under the stars.
Orkila Traditional Explorers
Grades 5 - 8
Explorers focus on team-building and developing confidence and competence around camp. Taking the next step as Camp Orkila campers, Explorers do a horseback trail ride, take on more advanced ropes activities and continue with some favorite games and activities. For their out-of-cabin experience, campers embark on an overnight trip to Twin Lakes or Sucia Island.
Orkila Traditional Challengers
Grades 8 - 10
Challengers join camp's oldest mixed-gender units (while still living in single-gender cabins).They enjoy age-appropriate challenges and develop independent skills. Challengers select their activities during open recreation periods and enjoy 24 hours on Satellite Island or at Twin Lakes for their out-of-cabin experience.
Orkila Specialty Programs
Grades 6 - 9
Spend mornings focused on special areas of interest such as horseback riding, challenge course elements, marine biology or skateboarding with time in the afternoon to enjoy traditional camp activities.
Orkila Teen Expedition Programs
Grades 8 - 12
Teens are drawn to YMCA Expeditions, not just to explore new places, but for the thrill of personal accomplishment and team connection. Expeditions cover a lot more than terrain and water they're journeys that tap into the very best that each teen has to offer, for themselves and the well-being and growth of the group. One, two and four week programs available.
Orkila Leadership Development Institute Programs
Grades 9 - 12
Two and three-week programs designed to build leadership skills. Teens gain the confidence to become outstanding role models at camp and in life. LDIs will facilitate camp activities, orchestrate service projects and kayak, bike or sail for five days in the San Juan Islands.
Colman Traditional Camps
Grades 1 - 11
Camp Colman programs are age-specific to bring out the best in everyone. Each camper is assigned by age and gender to a cabin, which features full bath/shower facilities and is supervised by at least two college-aged counselors. Younger campers try their hand at camp activities with close supervision and bedtime routines to help them feel comfortable sleeping away from home. Older campers discover activities like the high ropes course, canoeing, marine exploration, vertical playpen, biking, the Camp Colman catwalk and leadership opportunities in addition to all traditional camp activities.
Colman Specialty Camps
Grades 1 - 8
Focus on special areas of interest such as canoeing, sailing, fine arts or pirates adventure. All campers are given daily choices from a variety of activities, such as arts projects, swimming, boating, archery, climbing, sports and the giant swing. Days end with campfires, skits, singing, laughter and gorgeous sunsets over the Olympic Mountains.
Colman Leadership Camps
Grades 9 - 12
Two-week and four-week programs designed to develop leadership skills. Teens will help facilitate camper activities, engage in team-building and explore future camp leadership opportunities. Leadership Camps foster the development of spirit, mind and body in teens through strong mentorship and dynamic, fun activities. Special emphasis is placed on teambuilding and recognition of each person's role in his or her community.
